Trudy McCaffery, who lost a battle with cancer in 2007, was a dedicated owner, breeder and enthusiastic supporter of the Thoroughbred Industry. Her advice and support was invaluable to the development of Equine Prep in its early years. She was not only a business partner, but also a wonderful friend and she will be missed greatly. Her successful racehorses, owned in partnership with John Toffan, included Free House, Bien Bien, Came Home, A.P. Assay, Mane Minister, Pacific Squall, Nice Assay, Visible Gold, Del Mar Dennis, and Bienamado. She was a founder and president of Kids to the Cup, a non-profit organization that promoted the education and involvement of young people in the sport of horse racing. Equine Prep was a proud supporter of this worthy non-profit. Ms. McCaffery also served on the Board of Directors of many of racing’s most influential organizations: the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the Breeders’ Cup, the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, the California Thoroughbred Breeder's Association, the Oak Tree Racing Association, the Thoroughbred Owners of California, and the University of Arizona's Racetrack Management School.

Director John O'Hara is Director of Operations for Equine Prep. With nearly 30 years of experience and success with Thoroughbred Racehorses, O’Hara's broad background combines expertise from the Racing, Breeding and Sales segments.
During his early career as an assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg, O'Hara oversaw the careers of many notable race horses including Kentucky Derby Winner, Alysheba (above). His career as a trainer in the early '90's included back-to-back years with a winning percentage of nearly 20%, and his niche was selecting undervalued horses. O'Hara soon entered the Sales segment of the industry, where he began purchasing profitable young horses for clients such as distinguished racehorse owners, Trudy McCaffery and John Toffan. O'Hara also supervised the breaking and early training of horses such as Freehouse, with over $3,000,000 in earnings, and Came Home with over $1,800,000 earnings for McCaffery and Toffan. In 1995, O'Hara started Equine Prep, now a
well-known and highly respected pinhooking business. Involved in
purchasing everything from weanlings and yearlings to broodmares and
stallions, Equine Prep quickly grew into one of the top sales-achieving
entities in the Thoroughbred Sales Industry. |
